Runoff election features three state, two federal races

The runoff election originally scheduled for May 26 and ultimately postponed due to the new coronavirus pandemic is coming up on July 14 with early voting beginning June 29. Voters in Austin County will decide on three state and two federal races.

June 15 was the last day to register to vote although those eligible to apply for a mail-in ballot can still do so as long as the early voting clerk receives the application by July 2.

Voters registered with the Republican party will decide one statewide race while members of the Democratic party will cast their votes for two statewide and two federal races each.

The federal-level races on the democratic side will decide the candidate that represents the party in the election for Senator and State Representative. The fight for Senator features Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, and M.J. Hegar who will battle for the right to square off with the Republican incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the November general election.

For the State Representative position for District 10, Pritesh Gandhi is opposing Mike Siegel for the Democratic party’s nomination to go up against the Republican incumbent Michael McCaul.

Early voting will be held at the Austin County Election Office’s meeting room located at 804 E. Wendt Street in Bellville from June 29 to July 2 and July 6 to July 10 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those voters not participating in early voting will go to their precinct’s voting location on July 14 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
