Soil testing

November has been set as the time for all Austin County landowners to participate in the soil testing campaign for this year’s hay meadows and pastureland. The Beef and Forage Committee of Austin County is sponsoring the soil test drive. Samples along with payment may be turned in at: Bellville: Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Austin County (800 E. Wendt St.), Harrison’s Farm Service and Linseisen’s Feed & Supply Inc; Sealy: Steinhauser’s; New Ulm: Dudensing Farm Service; and Industry: Lindemann’s Store. Car social

The Downtown Sealy Car Social will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Main and Fowlkes streets.

Lions Sealy Dance Club

The Lions Sealy Dance Club will hold a dance on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Sealy American Legion Hall with the Kreneks providing music from 7:30-11 p.m. Please do not bring door prizes. Please wear a mask to enter the hall, and temperatures will be checked.

Sealy BizSmart

The Sealy Chamber of Commerce is hosting Sealy BizSmart – Overcoming the Challenges of COVID-19 from 9-10 a.m. on Nov. 11. It is a free virtual seminar for Sealy’s business professionals courtesy of the Sealy Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union. Sealy KC’s Famous Fish Fry Dinner

The Sealy Knights of Columbus will hold a fish fry drive thru dinner on Friday, Nov. 13, at the Sealy Columbus Club (KC) Hall at 1310 Hwy 90 West, Sealy. Serving from 5:30-7:30 p.m. 

2nd Annual Extravaganza

Friends of the Sealy American Legion are hosting the 2nd Annual Extravaganza on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 6-11 p.m. Dinner is served from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and dancing and drawings begin at 8 p.m. Top prize is a $5,555 gift card. Only 400 tickets will be sold. For more information, call 713-296-9387.

Chili cook-off

The 15th annual Avey’s Chili Cook-off to benefit the Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department will take place Nov. 21 at the Cat Spring Agricultural Hall. Sponsorships are being accepted through Nov. 13. Chicken fried steak dinner

San Felipe United Methodist Church will hold its 8th annual fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the church. The drive-thru dinner will include chicken fried steak, potatoes, gravy, green beans and homemade bread.

Sealy barbecue chicken dinner

A drive-thru barbecue chicken dinner benefitting the Friends of the Sealy American Legion will be held Sunday, Nov. 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 1630 Meyer St.

Wallis barbecue chicken dinner

Wallis American Legion Post 200 will hold at Veterans Day drive-thru barbecue chicken and sausage fundraiser at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov 15, at the Wallis America Legion Hall.

Austin County Pecan Show

The Horticulture Committee of Austin County will host its Annual Pecan Show on Friday, Nov. 20, at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office at 800 E Wendt St, Bellville. Entries must be delivered to the office during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to noon, and 1-5 p.m., from Nov. 16-19. All entries must be submitted by 9 a.m. Nov. 20. Holiday Hold’em

Want to maintain or lose weight this holiday season? A community wellness program, Holiday Hold’em will begin soon. The free online challenge is designed to encourage participants to gain no more than two pounds during the holiday season. The AgriLife Extension programs of Austin and Fayette counties will offer the program starting Sunday, Nov. 22, through Jan. 4. On average, people gain 8-10 pounds during the holiday season. Wreaths Across

Sealy High School Student Council, NHS, and Interact are hosting their 3rd Annual Sealy Wreaths Across event on Saturday, Dec. 19. In order to ensure we have located all local veterans in the Sealy Cemetery, please contact Leslie Pacher (lapacher@sealyisd.com) with the veteran’s name, plot location (if possible), and contact information in case a follow up is necessary.

Looking for SHS grads in military

Sealy High School Student Council wants to reach out to any SHS graduates that are currently serving in the military. Contact Leslie Pacher (lapacher@sealyisd.com) with the graduate’s name and a current mailing address where they are stationed.

 

Christmas mixer

The Sealy Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual membership Christmas mixer on Thursday, Dec. 10, from 5-8 p.m at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 2370 Hwy. 36 South. Unwrapped gifts benefiting the Blue Santa project will be collected.

Barbecue chicken dinner

A drive-thru barbecue chicken dinner benefitting the Friends of the Sealy American Legion will be held Sunday, Dec. 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 1630 Meyer St.
