Holiday events are here

Angel Tree starts day after Thanksgiving

Posted

The coronavirus pandemic may have forced the cancelation of many events in 2020 but it is not slowing down activities for the holidays.

The Sealy News is once again hosting the Angel Tree where members of the community select an ornament with the name and gift wish of a retirement home member off the Angel Tree, purchase and wrap the gift, and return it with the ornament to the newspaper office (193 Schmidt Road). Those gifts are then given to the residents of The Oaks and Silver Lake retirement communities. For some, it may be the only gift they get this year. The Angel Tree will go up the week of Thanksgiving and be available to the public starting Friday, Nov. 27.

Wrapping paper

All Austin County children wishing to color pictures for the newspaper’s annual wrapping paper section contest can find them in the paper this week and next or also download them from the website at www.sealynews.com. The colorful wrapping paper will be printed in the Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 editions of the paper. The coloring contest is open to public school, private school, home-school, and virtual learners.

The pictures should be taken to Austin County State Bank in Sealy, 325 Meyer St., between Monday, Nov. 23, and Tuesday, Dec. 1. The lobby is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the drive-through on Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All entries received will be displayed in the lobby at Austin County State Bank during the contest period. The winners will be chosen by a panel of independent judges selected by the Sealy News and judging will take place on Dec. 2. The decision of the judges is final. The contest is sponsored by Austin County State Bank and the Sealy Community Foundation.

Letters to Santa

Elementary school children are also writing their letters to Santa, which will be published in the Dec. 17 edition of the newspaper. Any child not participating through their school is invited to contact The Sealy News at kim.lynch@sealynews.com, call 979-885-3562, or stop by the office at 193 Schmidt Road to request a letter form.

Businesses wishing to advertise on the back of the wrapping paper or in the Letters to Santa special section to support the children should email publisher@sealynews.com or call 979-885-3562.
