Continuing a tradition started two years ago, the Sealy High School Student Council, National Honor Society, and Interact Club will once again host the local observance of Wreaths Across America.
The organizers are hoping to raise enough money to place a wreath at the Sealy Cemetery and on specified graves at the Catholic cemetery. This year they are looking to place 285 at the Sealy Cemetery and on requested plots at the ICC Cemetery.
“We would like to make sure every veteran in the Sealy Cemetery has a wreath. That number is currently 285, and the only way we can do it is with the support of our community,” Student Council Adviser Leslie Pacher said.
Donations can be made in two ways. Students from all three organizations will be out and about collecting donations, or donations can also be mailed directly to the high school in care of Sealy High School NHS, Student Council or Interact Club. The address is 2372 Championship Drive, Sealy, TX 77474. They ask that you write “Wreaths Across America” in the memo line and the name if it is for a specified donation. Donors can also go to the official WWA website at wreathsacrossamerica.org and find the Sealy location page to sponsor a wreath or wreaths.
The deadline for cash donations directly to the high school is Wednesday, Nov. 26, and the deadline for online donations is Nov. 30.
For more information, contact Val Goad, Leslie Pacher, Melissa Simms, or Stephanie Novicke at Sealy High School.
The ceremony will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19 at the Sealy American Legion Hall. Donuts and coffee will be served at 8 a.m. followed by the ceremony at 8:30 a.m. The laying of the wreaths will follow immediately after at the Sealy Cemetery and the Catholic Cemetery.
