After 5 years at The Sealy News, Lopez says goodbye

(Editor’s note: Sealy News Publisher Karen Lopez recently announced her retirement. Her last day with The Sealy News will be Dec. 31. What follows is her letter to the community she has come to love in the past five years.)
My voyage into the newspaper field began 20 years ago with Houston Community Newspapers. From there I ventured into a major metro called The Houston Chronicle. With the training I received, I knew that my passion was in community media.
I have learned so much about the field of journalism, marketing, personal and business relationships. I have worked with some of the best and appreciate each learning curve you threw me. I could not be more thankful for all Austin County has done for me. Your kind words of encouragement and support, the countless hugs and annual selfies. These things, and more, I will take with me. Your energizing spirit pushed me to produce the best products possible. I truly believe that we are “The voice of Austin County”.
My journey is far from over. We all move on at some time in our life. For now, I want to spend more time with my six grandsons. Life is too short not to watch them grow up.
Always remember, your past is worth looking back on so that you are confident of where you are headed.
Many blessings,
